L-aspartic acid is the earliest and most mature process used in the production of polyaspartic acid by condensation, polymerization and hydrolysis. The process was first developed by Donlar, USA, and an 18,000 t/a large-scale production plant was built in 1996.
In China, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Tianjin University and other research institutes have been R&D PASP production since the beginning of the 21st century. In 2000, Hebei Synergy Environmental Protection Technology Ltd. (formerly Shijiazhuang Development Zone Desai Chemical Co., Ltd.) has been developing the industrial production of polyaspartic acid in cooperation with the National Key Laboratory of United Laboratory for Chemical Engineering of Tianjin University.
In 2002, the new polyaspartic acid produced by Desai Chemical Co., Ltd was approved by the expert panel as a new product in China and its quality reached the international advanced level.
In 2004, the polyaspartic acid produced by Desai Chemical Co., Ltd was recognized as a "National Key New Product" by the Ministry of Science and Technology and other four ministries.
In 2005, Desai Chemical Co., Ltd, Tongji University, and Tianjin Chemical Research and Design Institute jointly formulated the industry standard HG/T3822-2006 for polyaspartic acid.
